It’s such a thrill to keep pushing yourself and hitting targets you thought were impossible to achieve.

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup through the internship program. I was getting increasingly fed up of having no money during term time at uni and my boyfriend, who worked at Page, recommended it. At this point I was still insistent on a career in law but I quickly realised that the role included everything I loved about law, such as negotiation and that the people were very likeminded.

Tell us about your Page Group career so far.

After the term-time internship finished I decided on a move to London and was set up with the graduate programme for the summer. When the programme ended, despite having a very attractive offer elsewhere I just couldn’t leave Page and my team so I decided to stay on full time.  I began on a brand new desk and worked on both temporary and permanent markets. By Christmas I was promoted to full consultant and had reached senior consultant by the following July as well as enjoyed my first high-flyers trip to Portugal. Since then I have built up my market, brought in big accounts and even hit my personal best month this September.

It’s such a thrill to keep pushing yourself and hitting targets you thought were impossible to achieve.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

I’m not yet sure if I want to go down the business management route or managerial route, it’s brilliant that I can do either though. I do know that I want to travel with Page and make the most of the fact that we are a global business.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

Make sure you are ready for the ups and downs. When you are on the up, celebrate your success no matter how small. When you are down remember not to judge yourself against anyone else – we all work on different markets.

Recruitment isn’t like other professions; you can’t get a degree in it. It’s all about being a well rounded person, enjoying the interaction with people and being able to play to your strengths.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I can’t decide between calling a candidate to let them know they have been offered the job, or building a relationship with a client where they see you as a partner and trust you as their consultant.

    • Charlotte Haworth

      Charlotte Haworth

Managing Consultant - Michael Page Finance

"PageGroup is a great company to work for – if you are self motivated, ambitious, eager to learn and looking for a career that really rewards these qualities you will progress"

Tell us about your PageGroup career so far.

I joined as a graduate in May 2013 after returning from travelling Australia and SE Asia. I joined Michael Page Finance as an associate consultant and worked on the specialist markets team. I managed to hit ‘High Flyers’ in my first quarter and again in my third. I was promoted to full consultant in January 2014 and the senior consultant in August 2014.

In January 2015 I recruited an associate consultant to work alongside me in my market. He got up to speed quickly and narrowly missed out on ‘High Flyers’ twice in his first six months (the targets had gone up since I hit them) He was soon promoted and is on track for more success in the not too distant future. I am now a managing consultant with Michael Page Finance, the same team I joined back in 2013.

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup for a number of reasons. Whilst I had not considered a career in recruitment before I graduated, the more I found out about the role and the industry the more it seemed very appealing. The main factors were:

      • The culture – I met some great people before I joined and the team seemed to have a really strong relationship. The atmosphere was good and it had a real feel of a work hard play hard environment.
      • The career prospects – Progression within the company was very clearly laid out, and this is based on a meritocracy.
      • The training and development - It's structured to ensure individual and collective success.
      • The rewards – Bonus structures, potential promotions, team incentives and the rest.

For me the biggest challenge was managing my time effectively. Once I had processes ongoing, the temptation was to focus all my attention on managing those processes without looking to build new work for the coming weeks and months. By planning each day/week carefully and setting realistic targets I was able to better prioritise my workload.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

There is always something to strive for here. The next step for me is to become a manager. I’d also like to work abroad for a period of time too which is easy to do with Page. After that I’d like to become a director within PageGroup back in the UK.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Successfully filling a job for a client and finding a candidate their ideal role are both incredibly satisfying. Also hitting target feels great as you are very well rewarded both financially and with team events.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

PageGroup is a great company to work for – if you are self motivated, ambitious, eager to learn and looking for a career that really rewards these qualities you will progress. It’s a great opportunity

      Chris McElkerney

      Manager -  Page Personnel Finance

"It’s been fantastic to see my consultants thrive in their roles, and to know that I've had a hand in their development"

      Why I joined PageGroup

I joined PageGroup because I wanted to work for a renowned and well respected organisation and having spoken with the Graduate Talent Acquisition team, I was convinced that the rewarding sales culture was right up my street.

      My PageGroup journey

I joined as a graduate consultant in the Reading office and was promoted to full consultant within my first three months. My first year in the role was tough and I needed the guidance and support of my manager and director to maintain my focus and progress. I went on to become senior consultant and the managing consultant in a short space of time and in May 2013 took over management of the Reading team. In August 2015 I was promoted again to senior manager and was awarded ‘Manager of the Year’ for Page Personnel Finance, London & South East.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

I imagine that there are very few FTSE 250 organisations who can boast the fact that their CEO and 87% of directors have been promoted from within. One day, I want to help increase that statistic.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

I must admit that I didn’t fully understand what the job of a recruitment consultant entailed until I started the interview process with PageGroup. My advice would be to speak to someone working in the industry to get a first-hand perspective and then decide if the role is for you.

If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where your role is ever-changing and you need to push yourself outside of your comfort zone each day, then I would urge you to contact our talent Acquisition team.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Now that I’m a manager it’s been fantastic to see my consultants thrive in their roles, and to know that I've had a hand in their development.

    • Dean Rose

      Dean Rose

      Manager, Michael Page Logistics

      Why I joined PageGroup

When I was looking for a new job, PageGroup was the highest ranked recruiter in the Times Top 100 companies to work for, so I applied. When I met the people here I knew the opportunity was the right one.

      My PageGroup journey

I joined towards the end of 2007 to launch the temp Supply Chain business in London, later taking on Logistics for the South East. I was promoted to managing consultant in 2011 and to manager in 2012 as our logistics offering continued to grow. In 2013 I launched the Page Personnel Logistics business for the South which continues to form a successful part of our unique logistics recruitment offering.

      How I spend my time

      • Managing recruitment processes
      • Leading the team towards our goals and keeping energy levels high
      • Identifying, hiring and developing new talent

      My top tips

If you are self-motivated and ambitious you can go far in this business. By doing the basics very well and applying your natural style you can become the ‘go to person’ in your chosen market.

    • Felicity Jardine

      Felicity Jardine

      Manager - Michael Page Finance

"If you want to work for a meritocratic business, with an exciting management team, an ambitious growth strategy and as long as you are not afraid of hard work and bring the right attitude; I can assure you that you won’t regret it"

      Why did you join PageGroup?

When I started to consider recruitment I asked for recommendations of well known companies and every person I spoke to mentioned Page. I was initially attracted to the big shiny offices and the thought of working for a FTSE listed business, but after interviewing the big thing for me was the team based environment and the people I met.

Tell us about your PageGroup career so far.

I began in a relatively under developed market, in an office that was a bit of an ‘underdog’ when compared to our larger central offices. Since then I have established myself and my career has almost had the fast forward button on. I now manage the team here and we are coming up to a £2 million office with 20% year on year growth. Most importantly it’s been the best four years of my life and given the choice I’d do it all again in exactly the same way.

Most mornings I spend with my team reviewing where we are on out monthly targets. We discuss where we need to get to that week and how we can achieve that. I invest time with my consultants where necessary to ensure that they meet their targets individually and have the support they need. When we are all working well we can achieve our team goals and reach numbers together. Otherwise I am on the phone doing business development, briefing people on jobs, arranging interviews and making placements.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

I see myself as a future managing director at Page, becoming a positive role model and advocate for the ‘Women@Page’ initiative and inspiring others as my directors have done with me. The best part is that said directors convstantly reassure me that this can be my path should I choose it. They encourage me to work hard toward these goals even though it means me nipping at their heels.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

If you want to work for a meritocratic business, with an exciting management team, an ambitious growth strategy and as long as you are not afraid of hard work and bring the right attitude; I can assure you that you won’t regret it.

What is most rewarding about your job?

I wouldn’t be a true sales person if I didn’t say that the thrill of completing on a long, tough process is a very rewarding experience; but it is all about me team now. I love seeing new consultants develop and be successful and more experienced consultants be the best they can be. Incentivising them and rewarding them with qualitative and exciting experiences when they go above and beyond is great. My team are definitely the best part of my job.

  • Director
    • Sheraz Anwar
    • Nicola Wensley
    • David Devon
    • Andy James

      Andy James

Managing Director - Michael Page Property and Construction

"Your hard work, determination and success are rewarded with promotions and bonuses; you literally get back what you put in"

      What lead you to recruitment?

Recruitment offered me everything I was looking for in a career. It is a meritocracy meaning those that are best at what they do progress quicker; it’s not about time served. Secondly your hard work, determination and success are rewarded with promotions and bonuses; you literally get back what you put in. Thirdly it’s a very competitive team based environment, working with likeminded people. This suited me down to the ground having come from a background of playing team sports.

What skills have helped you in your role as a managing director?

Listening, organising, empathising, developing an inclusive style of management and being transparently honest. You meet people you’ve never met before and quickly build a rapport whilst executing an action plan in a very short period of time.

How have you balanced the demands of the job with your life away from work?

The challenge is trying to balance a very chaotic home life with two young girls and a challenging career with significant travel. Add to that trying to stay fit and maintain a healthy social life; all at the same time. On all fronts I have been very fortunate, I have a very understanding family and support network, very understanding friends and I have always worked with empathetic peers who have guided and supported me all the way.

I think the diversity, inclusion and ‘giving back’ initiatives are the most invaluable foundations that underpin our business. It has allowed us to support our diverse workforce in so many different ways. I have recently been a beneficiary of parents@page having become a father of two over the last five years. This has involved juggling a challenging career with playing Dad, and on occasions getting it the wrong way round! Listening to story tapes on the way to work is obviously an accident!)

What is most rewarding about your job?

I get the chance to help people fulfil their absolute potential, whether that be internally with consultant promotions or externally with candidate advice and consultation.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

Get ready for a change in pace; your career will move at 100mph. The role is fundamentally about building a network of relationships and developing an innate ability to consult and sell, the role is challenging, it’s tough on occasions and it’s a roller coaster ride. However, it’s a fantastic journey and very rewarding both financially and through personal recognition.

You need to be organised, disciplined and prepared to throw every ounce of energy into the role; it’s not for the faint hearted. Finally imagine a role where you look forward to going to work every day and you work with likeminded, successful people; that’s been me for the last eleven years.

Go on....jump on board and enjoy the experience, it's a fantastic business with fantastic people!

    • Colin Roope

      Colin Roope

Associate Director - Michael Page Engineering

"You get out what you put in and are in control of your own destiny"

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I chose PageGroup as I felt it genuinely gave me the best opportunity to have a career and not just a job. I wanted to work for a business that lived its values and offered me career development opportunity; a place where hard work and delivery would not go unnoticed and be fairly rewarded.

Tell us about your PageGroup career so far.

I started in the Weybridge office as a consultant in Engineering and Manufacturing in December 2009. I was tasked with developing the FMCG part of the market which had previously been untouched. After strong initial success we grew the team to three and I was promoted to manager in March 2011. The team continued to grow and exceed targets and expectations and in February 2013 I took over the management of our Bristol office alongside Weybridge. In August 2013 I was promoted to associate director and am now responsible for eleven people across multiple locations.

I would love to open a new office, to start a new discipline and continue my journey to full director and hopefully beyond that. I want to hire and develop the next generation of leaders at PageGroup.

What is most rewarding about your job?

The most rewarding part is promoting my team. We are a genuine meritocracy and in my time in a leadership role I have made ten promotions. Of all the people I have hired, every person who has had over twelve months experience has been promoted at least once. I am very proud of this record as well as of my strong retention figures.

What advice would you give someone with a sporting background who wanted a job in recruitment?

If you are not prepared to give 100% all the time recruitment is not for you. You get out what you put in and are in control of your own destiny. If you want a career where you will have fin, constantly be developed and rewarded then PageGroup is for you. Discipline time management and a winning mentality go a long way here. You get out what you put in and are in control of your own destiny

    • Isabel Cutts

      Isabel Cutts

      Managing Director, Page Personnel Finance

      Why I joined PageGroup

I knew that by joining the best company in the sector I’d get the best possible training and grounding. PageGroup was the obvious choice for me.

      My PageGroup journey

I joined in London in the Marketing temp team, soon setting up a team in St Albans. In 2003 I was the top UK biller and promoted to manager. Over the years I have managed temp and perm teams in Weybridge, Leeds and Manchester leading to my promotion to director. I returned from maternity leave to join Page Personnel Finance for two years before I went on maternity leave with my second child. I returned in 2012 and was promoted to regional director and later that year I became managing director of Page Personnel Finance – London & South East.

      How I spend my time

      • Ensuring the team is supported to achieve their targets and succeed
      • Effective time management
      • Reviewing business strategy

Teenage Cancer Trust

Teenage Cancer Trust

PageGroup is committed to giving back to the UK communities we work within and since 2006 we have raised over £1m for charity through various partnerships. For the next two years, PageGroup will be fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust, the UK´s leading charity dedicated to supporting young people with cancer aged 13-24.

We have committed to raise £200,000 which will fund 8,000 hours of vital care and support via their Expert Care Programme. This will include funding Teenage Cancer Trust youth support coordinators, specialist units and expert nurses in teenage and young adult cancer care. Patients will receive one hour of expert care for every £25 raised by a PageGroup employee.

Since 2006, PageGroup has raised over £1m for charity through various partnerships, including Breast Cancer Care, the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital and most recently, Teenage Cancer Trust.

These partnerships have inspired PageGroup staff to scale great heights, pace the streets in marathons, compete in triathlons, cycle hundreds of miles between capital cities, and hold an Apprentice-style fundraising contest which pits teams against each other to raise the most money in one day. Hundreds of employees also come together each year to partake in PageGroup's biggest fundraising challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

For the second year running, we have partnered with women’s charity SmartWorks to provide quality interview clothes to out-of-work women on low incomes. As part of our 'Women at Page' initiative, PageGroup launched a clothes charity drive on International Women’s Day with SmartWorks, which involved donating unwanted office clothes, and ran as a six week campaign.

Additionally, we conducted our second Professional Development Day on Thursday 17 July with nine SmartWorks clients. It is a full day workshop which covers CV writing, managing work life balance, career presentations, business etiquette and work culture, building presentation skills, goal setting and mock interviews.

School of Hard Knocks

School of Hard Knocks

PageGroup UK works with School of Hard Knocks, a social inclusion charity running courses that use sport to tackle the issues surrounding unemployment, antisocial behaviour, crime and health. They have an expert team of coaches and mentors, supported by a wide range of high profile individuals from within and outside sport.

Using their unique programme of challenging activities and values-based lessons, they enable participants to take positive steps forward in their lives. We support School of Hard Knocks with careers fairs and employment workshops, using our expertise to advise on aspects of careers such as interview skills. They also teach responsibility, motivation, teamwork, respect and discipline, all of which allow individuals to take responsibility for their actions and context. Their programmes are delivered to young children, teenagers and adults.

You can visit their website at www.schoolofhardknocks.org.uk and follow them on Twitter @sohkcharity too for the latest news and updates!

Schools Programme

Schools Programme

We realise that giving back is about more than just raising money for good causes. Why not utilise our skill sets and work with local schools and colleges to provide advice on CV writing, interviews and the job search process? We have undertaken a programme where we visit schools and collelges across the country and deliver careers workshops, empowering young people who are preparing to enter the workforce with the skills they need to get ahead. Directors and managers visit schools with members of their team and give seminars and workshops where practical skills are learnt and practiced. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we are planning to do even more in 2016.

"The team at Michael Page delivered a fantastic interactive workshop to a large group of sixth form students; they were great at engaging the students about developing soft skills, making improvements to CVs and the importance of preparing well and being yourself in interview"

"I wasn't fully prepared for the enthusiasm and care  taken to organising the time we had. I feel our students were given some remarkable experiences and were treated to some very valuable careers advice and guidance."

"Real life examples enabled the students to understand what employers are looking for whilst encouraging our students to recognise their own developing employability skills and personal qualities."

International transfers

View the profiles of some of our international transfers to find out why our global presence makes us a great company to work for.
David Slater UK - Canada

I joined Michael Page Sales in 2006 as a consultant. Interestingly I didn't join (as many do) with the intentions of working internationally... it's funny how things pan out when the right opportunity presents itself.

Last year I had an internal discussion about the growth potential and the obstacles to overcome in our Canadian business. I'm now director of Michael Page Sales, Marketing and Technology in Toronto. It's still early days with plenty to accomplish but I already feel that I've learned so much. I'm excited about what lies ahead and it's clear that it was the 'right time', despite me not knowing it only a few months ago!

Denis Daniliuc France - Mexico

I joined in France as a consultant and progressed to manager level before applying for an international move and I was given the opportunity to move to New York. Heading back to Europe, I joined our office in Brussels to take over various disciplines in Belgium. After a few years, good results and a baby, I moved to Mexico City to grow our operations in this dynamic country.

I enjoy the nice weather and amazing weekend trips this beautiful country offers. If you want to develop professionally and enjoy a strong international network, PageGroup is definitely the place to be!

Jamie Hart UK - Sweden

I joined Michael Page in 2000 in London and in 2014 it felt the right time to explore international opportunities.

Learning something new about yourself and other people, learning new ways of recruiting in different markets has always been the main driver behind my attachment to PageGroup. Moving to Sweden has taken this to a whole new level.

The trust placed in you when you move abroad is inspiring, realising how much there is to learn gives you extra energy and living in a different environment positively challenges you professionally and personally. Now I won’t look back when I am old and wonder ‘if only’...

Marco Cremonese Italy - Germany

I started in Page Personnel Milan in 2009 as a trainee and became a senior consultant in the Retail division in 2010. In 2012 I took over the Digital & New Media specialisation and in October 2013 I became a manager.

I was happy in Milan but I wanted to experience meeting new people and working in a new division. I also wanted to develop personally.

I now work for Michael Page Finance & Accounting in Munich – of course it is a hard challenge and a new start, but it is a wonderful experience. I´m happy about the opportunity that PageGroup gave me.

Giovanni Presti Italy - Turkey

I was one of the top performers in Europe and won a trip to Istanbul. I didn’t know then but a year later the company, in response to my desire for international experience, was going to propose Turkey as my next chance to develop.

I am growing a new team in Istanbul, a wonderful city in a country where the culture is different from Italy but where there is a lot of energy in people and life. With PageGroup there are opportunities to learn about new cultures and live the experience.

Katherine Karlsen UK - South Africa

South Africa is very different from the UK, there are certain aspects of employment policy I had to overcome, but I find this makes it more exciting and it gave me a challenge. Johannesburg is known as the 'City of Gold' – as the gateway to Africa it provides you with further exposure to an emerging market. It really is an exciting place to recruit.

There is a great atmosphere in the office. The teams are motivated, passionate and diverse. There is a true sense of PageGroup culture here, with the added twist of South Africa.

Tamara Boonstra Netherlands - Indonesia

I was interested in the idea of international opportunities within the Group so started applying for a transfer. News came that the business was being launched in Jakarta, so I applied, got the job and moved here in January.

The best bit about moving is that it has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. I’m learning about a new culture and how to adapt in all sorts of situations – personally and professionally. Moving is definitely worthwhile. It has opened my mind and my eyes and given me space to explore and develop.

Simone Turola Italy - China

China is very different to Europe and the initial impact can be strong. It is important to have an open mind and see things with interest, curiosity and a sense of humour. Everyday can be a surprise, from the food to a new word that helps you in daily life to a new place to visit or a new person to meet.

I don’t know how many other companies can offer this level and variety of international opportunities; it’s a chance to build your future success. My only regret is that I should have done this earlier!

Client and candidate satisfaction rank highly among our consultants and this continues right the way through to director level. Negotiating on behalf of our clients to secure them the best candidates for their roles and the best package for our candidates is challenging.

Yes, it's business-to-business sales.

There is a constant buzz of activity. As we have small business teams the offices are open plan, highly supportive as well as lots of fun.

The euphoria of placing candidates and being rewarded for achieving targets is evident throughout the whole organisation. In addition, the pride associated with working for such a well-known brand is a definite plus.

You will be paid a competitive base salary with the opportunity to receive bonus/commission payments. Your career will progress within PageGroup based on the results that you achieve – 87% of our directors were promoted from within. There are also trips abroad for high achievers and quarterly events within a fun and team-based environment. Finally, to round out your rewards package, we have competitive benefit programmes.

All consultants have a set of key performance indicators relative to the business in which they work, these are discussed with your manager on a daily basis and used to track and improve your performance. In addition we have a bi-annual appraisal which gives you the opportunity to discuss, among other things, your long-term career plans.

As well as attending your regional consultant development programme, you will also receive one-to-one support from your manager, including on desk coaching and shadowing and localised workshop sessions for key recruitment skills.

Successful applicants will be required to attend either an interview or assessment centre, along with the opportunity to spend some time with the team you will potentially join on the operating floor and a meeting with the relevant business MD.

We will contact you either way to confirm whether or not you have been successful and provide you with relevant feedback on your performance.

At PageGroup, you are part of a company at the leading edge of the recruitment industry. We offer a rewarding corporate environment and create opportunities and challenges for our employees to reach their potential and feel like a contributor to PageGroup’s success.
