      Consultant, Michael Page, Sales

I was introduced by a Manager of Michael Page Taiwan when I graduated from university in 2013. I joined Michael Page as an Associate Consultant in 2014 and was promoted to Consultant specializing in recruiting Sales roles after 3 months.

As a freshman in the job market, Michael Page provided a systemized step-by-step training program that allowed me to understand the recruitment business as well as providing a clear and resourceful career path. Michael Page training program allows a beginner like me to build up solid skill sets in recruitment and the right attitude in the work environment.

When I first joined Michael Page, I was overwhelmed by the nature of the business which requires inquiring with senior business persons. However, with the very well rounded training and the guidance from my colleagues, I am now very familiar with my sector and am confident to provide professional consultancy for clients and candidates.

For any graduates who are interested in the recruiting business, Michael Page is definitely a brilliant place to start with.

      Manager, Michael Page Technology

Michael Page is a leading global recruitment firm that opened its Taipei office three years ago.  Based on the company’s worldwide proven record, I strongly believed that I can have a wider global view and opportunities to grow with the company.

I was hired as a consultant for the Technology team.  I achieved the targets that was tasked and hence promoted to be a senior consultant within a year. I have also been given responsibilities to train junior consultants. The company continuously invested in me and provided me with trainings to help develop my leadership skills. A few quarters later, I was promoted again to be a manager running the Technology team in Taipei.

Apart from the financial rewards received, I particularly enjoy the training, working environment and culture here. I deeply recognize our core values to work as a team, never give up and have fun. Honestly, working in the recruitment business is stressful, hence it is important to have faith, move on, and also encourage others.

Time management and process control are essential for the recruitment business. To achieve targets, we need to organize and plan our daily work.  First, we go through the day by planning our tasks in the early morning to ensure that the team has an efficient and productive day.  Meanwhile, coaching and advice will be given actively during the day to ensure issues and questions can be solved promptly. In addition, there is a portfolio review with the team to ensure that each individual is on the right track.  All these methodologies have been proven successful in the globe, which make us a value-added business partner for our clients.

Associate Director, Michael Page, Sales, Marketing and Retail

When and why did you join Michael Page?

I joined Michael Page in January 2006, working from the central London office in Holborn. Having worked in media sales for several years and returning from backpacking around the world for 18 months, I wanted to continue my sales career and decided Recruitment was the industry that particularly interested me. I wanted to work for a blue chip business which could offer both career progression but also longer term international opportunities and so Michael Page provided a great platform for both. I submitted my CV online and got a call back the same day.

How you have grown with Michael Page?

Having joined the UK business as a consultant, I have grown and developed in so many ways. My skill set in terms of sales/business development and people management have been two areas in particular. I have developed personally and professionally during the past 9 years and am now running several Michael Page teams in a foreign country.

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?

Building successful teams where the consultants develop and take on bigger roles is by far the most rewarding part of the job.

What is the usual day-to-day schedule for you at Michael Page?

No two days are the same in the job because our roles in recruitment are all about dealing with people whether it be internally or externally.

I am normally in the office early so that I can plan my day ahead and then deal with anything urgent before my team arrives. Once people arrive, we either have a quick team meeting or conduct one to one meetings to review the day before and evaluate our business priorities for the day ahead. Being organized and having good time management is critical to being successful! Once everyone is off and running, I then start working on my own recruitment projects which includes meeting candidates, visiting clients, briefing candidates on jobs and business development activities. As an Associate Director, I also have a responsibility to make sure every consultant feels prepared and equipped to deal with situations as they arise and so during most days, I will be involved in coaching or ad hoc training sessions.

International transfers

View the profiles of some of our international transfers to find out why our global presence makes us a great company to work for.
David Slater UK – Canada

I joined Michael Page Sales in 2006 as a consultant. Interestingly I didn't join (as many do) with the intentions of working internationally... it's funny how things pan out when the right opportunity presents itself.

Last year I had an internal discussion about the growth potential and the obstacles to overcome in our Canadian business. I'm now director of Michael Page Sales, Marketing and Technology in Toronto. It's still early days with plenty to accomplish but I already feel that I've learned so much. I'm excited about what lies ahead and it's clear that it was the 'right time', despite me not knowing it only a few months ago!

Alena Salakhova Russia – USA

One of the reasons I joined PageGroup in 2009 was the opportunity to gain international experience. After five years I knew I could stay or challenge myself somewhere new.

I am still a very young director and people in Russia consider my relocation to San Francisco Bay Area (the most developed area for new business development and start ups and an incredible place to live) as amazing.

The one thing I would say if you want to progress your career internationally – don’t be afraid to chase for it and make your dreams come true.

Denis Daniliuc France – Mexico

I joined in France as a consultant and progressed to manager level before applying for an international move and I was given the opportunity to move to New York. Heading back to Europe, I joined our office in Brussels to take over various disciplines in Belgium. After a few years, good results and a baby, I moved to Mexico City to grow our operations in this dynamic country.

I enjoy the nice weather and amazing weekend trips this beautiful country offers. If you want to develop professionally and enjoy a strong international network, PageGroup is definitely the place to be!

Aaron Bambrick Australia – Canada

I started at PageGroup on the graduate programme in 2008 and before transferring to Houston I recruited in the mining, oil and gas sectors in Brisbane. Transferring internationally can do a lot for your career but it’s also a big challenge.

Having worked in both the Australian and US oil and gas markets I have now transferred to Calgary to help open the office here and establish a local presence for Michael Page in Western Canada. Calgary is a beautiful city only an hour from the Rocky Mountains and the market is similar to that of Australia in a lot of aspects. Calgary presents a significant opportunity for Michael Page and gives us an integrated North American oil and gas team.

Jamie Hart UK – Sweden

I joined Michael Page in 2000 in London and in 2014 it felt the right time to explore international opportunities.

Learning something new about yourself and other people, learning new ways of recruiting in different markets has always been the main driver behind my attachment to PageGroup. Moving to Sweden has taken this to a whole new level.

The trust placed in you when you move abroad is inspiring, realising how much there is to learn gives you extra energy and living in a different environment positively challenges you professionally and personally. Now I won’t look back when I am old and wonder ‘if only’...

Marco Cremonese Italy – Germany

I started in Page Personnel Milan in 2009 as a trainee and became a senior consultant in the Retail division in 2010. In 2012 I took over the Digital & New Media specialisation and in October 2013 I became a manager.

I was happy in Milan but I wanted to experience meeting new people and working in a new division. I also wanted to develop personally.

I now work for Michael Page Finance & Accounting in Munich – of course it is a hard challenge and a new start, but it is a wonderful experience. I´m happy about the opportunity that PageGroup gave me.

Giovanni Presti Italy – Turkey

I was one of the top performers in Europe and won a trip to Istanbul. I didn’t know then but a year later the company, in response to my desire for international experience, was going to propose Turkey as my next chance to develop.

I am growing a new team in Istanbul, a wonderful city in a country where the culture is different from Italy but where there is a lot of energy in people and life. With PageGroup there are opportunities to learn about new cultures and live the experience.

Katherine Karlsen UK - South Africa

South Africa is very different from the UK, there are certain aspects of employment policy I had to overcome, but I find this makes it more exciting and it gave me a challenge. Johannesburg is known as the 'City of Gold' – as the gateway to Africa it provides you with further exposure to an emerging market. It really is an exciting place to recruit.

There is a great atmosphere in the office. The teams are motivated, passionate and diverse. There is a true sense of PageGroup culture here, with the added twist of South Africa.

Tamara Boonstra Netherlands – Indonesia

I was interested in the idea of international opportunities within the Group so started applying for a transfer. News came that the business was being launched in Jakarta, so I applied, got the job and moved here in January.

The best bit about moving is that it has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. I’m learning about a new culture and how to adapt in all sorts of situations – personally and professionally. Moving is definitely worthwhile. It has opened my mind and my eyes and given me space to explore and develop.

Simone Turola Italy – China

China is very different to Europe and the initial impact can be strong. It is important to have an open mind and see things with interest, curiosity and a sense of humour. Everyday can be a surprise, from the food to a new word that helps you in daily life to a new place to visit or a new person to meet.

I don’t know how many other companies can offer this level and variety of international opportunities; it’s a chance to build your future success. My only regret is that I should have done this earlier!
