      Billur Uyanik

I started as a management trainee in mid-June 2013 for Michael Page Sales & Marketing and I was promoted three times in 10 months; so I am a senior consultant now. Because of my sector background, I was responsible for the FMCG category when I started. After I developed my accounts, I started recruiting into the industry and energy sector too.

I had always liked the idea of working in an international company with talented and professional people; that’s why I really adore my job.

Through the months, I have met with a lot of GMs, CEOs, country managers and sales and marketing directors who are really hard to reach from the FMCG, industry and energy sectors. When I call them to get together, they accept our visit because of our positive brand awareness and the professional view of Michael Page.

Furthermore, I have also gained more sector insight and I can improve myself by learning from my candidates. One of the things that I most enjoy at Michael Page is my career ambition is always supported and rewarded.

      Why I joined PageGroup

My journey with Michael Page started when they interviewed me as a candidate and they ended up interviewing me to work for Michael Page as a recruitment consultant. Manager, Page Personnel

I started with Page Personnel as a trainee in the Admin & Office Support division and stayed in this discipline as I worked my way up the business as a consultant, then senior consultant and then into the role of manager. I had always liked the idea of having an international career because I wanted to explore a new market and take on the challenge of working in a new country, so I moved to Istanbul in 2012. I am now manager for Page Personnel Admin & Office Support in Istanbul and I am working in a new market with more clients, as well as a new environment. That’s exactly what I was looking for and I think it is a good opportunity professionally and personally.

       Why I joined PageGroup

I started at Michael Page five years ago when they were a start up in Turkey. I was the fifth employee in the company, and we have grown since. More than 65 people are working in PageGroup now within the three brands, Page Executive, Michael Page and Page Personnel.

      My PageGroup journey

I joined in the Finance business as a trainee and after three months became a consultant. After a year I was promoted to senior consultant and in 2011 I launched the HR division and became manager for the Finance and HR functions.

10 months ago I joined Page Executive as an associate director and I am now responsible for CFO, HR director and legal director positions, placing C-level executives.

      Director, Michael Page

I started as a trainee in 2005 for Michael Page Banking in Madrid. In less than two years I was promoted to manager, with responsibility for the retail banking team.

After four years in Madrid, I decided to take the leap and moved to the Barcelona office as manager for the Banking, Tax and Legal divisions. It was rewarding to see another way of working and to be able to expand my client base in one of the best cities to live in.

In 2010 I was fortunate to receive the challenge of being part of the Board of Turkey as executive manager of the Finance and Banking divisions in Istanbul. After a great year, I was promoted to director, being responsible for more than 20 people.

One of the things that I enjoy at PageGroup, is seeing the same passion and energy (even with cultural differences) in every office, whether it is Madrid, Barcelona or Istanbul. Joining PageGroup gave me a great opportunity to develop my professional career with its huge overview of the market.

I joined PageGroup in 2007, for the Retail division in Milan. After 18 months, we decided to open an office in Istanbul and I was given the opportunity to be one of the founders of the first office in Turkey.

Currently, I lead the operations with a group of 70 colleagues and we are still growing.

Through the years, I have seen different countries and business lines and adapted to different market conditions, from buoyant economies to tough crises. A journey with PageGroup includes professional growth, learning, excitement, competition, pride and lots of fun, where adaptability and flexibility are crucial.

My career ambition and entrepreneurial spirit has been always supported and rewarded.

PageGroup training programme for blind people

PageGroup training programme for blind people

In Turkey, we partner with Six Dots Foundation for blind people. This foundation has a rehabilitation centre where they are educating blind people to live independently. Some of these people would like to have a job, but they don’t know how to find it.

We created a specific training programme for them, to teach blind people how to write a CV or prepare for an interview and our managers helped them to develop their professional skills and self confidence. After the training, our consultants help them to find a job.

PageGroup Turkey ran the Eurasia Marathon

PageGroup Turkey collaborates with an organisation called Adım-Adım to collect funds for different charity projects. We worked with them to organise the Eurasia Marathon. 45 people from PageGroup ran the Eurasia Marathon (10km), to raise funds for AÇEV, an NGO working to reduce the illiteracy rate among Turkish women. In total we raised 4.655 TL (2.000 €). We are also participating in other races such as Runtalya, or the Istanbul Half Marathon, with the same purpose.

International transfers

View the profiles of some of our international transfers to find out why our global presence makes us a great company to work for.
David Slater UK - Canada

I joined Michael Page Sales in 2006 as a consultant. Interestingly I didn't join (as many do) with the intentions of working internationally... it's funny how things pan out when the right opportunity presents itself.

Last year I had an internal discussion about the growth potential and the obstacles to overcome in our Canadian business. I'm now director of Michael Page Sales, Marketing and Technology in Toronto. It's still early days with plenty to accomplish but I already feel that I've learned so much. I'm excited about what lies ahead and it's clear that it was the 'right time', despite me not knowing it only a few months ago!

Alena Salakhova Russia - USA

One of the reasons I joined PageGroup in 2009 was the opportunity to gain international experience. After five years I knew I could stay or challenge myself somewhere new.

I am still a very young director and people in Russia consider my relocation to San Francisco Bay Area (the most developed area for new business development and start ups and an incredible place to live) as amazing.

The one thing I would say if you want to progress your career internationally – don’t be afraid to chase for it and make your dreams come true.

Denis Daniliuc France - Mexico

I joined in France as a consultant and progressed to manager level before applying for an international move and I was given the opportunity to move to New York. Heading back to Europe, I joined our office in Brussels to take over various disciplines in Belgium. After a few years, good results and a baby, I moved to Mexico City to grow our operations in this dynamic country.

I enjoy the nice weather and amazing weekend trips this beautiful country offers. If you want to develop professionally and enjoy a strong international network, PageGroup is definitely the place to be!

Aaron Bambrick Australia - USA

I started at PageGroup on the graduate programme in 2008 and before transferring to Houston I recruited in the mining, oil and gas sectors in Brisbane. Transferring internationally can do a lot for your career but it’s also a big challenge.

Having worked in both the Australian and US oil and gas markets I have now transferred to Calgary to help open the office here and establish a local presence for Michael Page in Western Canada. Calgary is a beautiful city only an hour from the Rocky Mountains and the market is similar to that of Australia in a lot of aspects. Calgary presents a significant opportunity for Michael Page and gives us an integrated North American oil and gas team.

Jamie Hart UK - Sweden

I joined Michael Page in 2000 in London and in 2014 it felt the right time to explore international opportunities.

Learning something new about yourself and other people, learning new ways of recruiting in different markets has always been the main driver behind my attachment to PageGroup. Moving to Sweden has taken this to a whole new level.

The trust placed in you when you move abroad is inspiring, realising how much there is to learn gives you extra energy and living in a different environment positively challenges you professionally and personally. Now I won’t look back when I am old and wonder ‘if only’...

Marco Cremonese Italy - Germany

I started in Page Personnel Milan in 2009 as a trainee and became a senior consultant in the Retail division in 2010. In 2012 I took over the Digital & New Media specialisation and in October 2013 I became a manager.

I was happy in Milan but I wanted to experience meeting new people and working in a new division. I also wanted to develop personally.

I now work for Michael Page Finance & Accounting in Munich – of course it is a hard challenge and a new start, but it is a wonderful experience. I´m happy about the opportunity that PageGroup gave me.

Giovanni Presti Italy - Turkey

I was one of the top performers in Europe and won a trip to Istanbul. I didn’t know then but a year later the company, in response to my desire for international experience, was going to propose Turkey as my next chance to develop.

I am growing a new team in Istanbul, a wonderful city in a country where the culture is different from Italy but where there is a lot of energy in people and life. With PageGroup there are opportunities to learn about new cultures and live the experience.

Katherine Karlsen UK - South Africa

South Africa is very different from the UK, there are certain aspects of employment policy I had to overcome, but I find this makes it more exciting and it gave me a challenge. Johannesburg is known as the 'City of Gold' – as the gateway to Africa it provides you with further exposure to an emerging market. It really is an exciting place to recruit.

There is a great atmosphere in the office. The teams are motivated, passionate and diverse. There is a true sense of PageGroup culture here, with the added twist of South Africa.

Tamara Boonstra Netherlands - Indonesia

I was interested in the idea of international opportunities within the Group so started applying for a transfer. News came that the business was being launched in Jakarta, so I applied, got the job and moved here in January.

The best bit about moving is that it has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. I’m learning about a new culture and how to adapt in all sorts of situations – personally and professionally. Moving is definitely worthwhile. It has opened my mind and my eyes and given me space to explore and develop.

Simone Turola Italy - China

China is very different to Europe and the initial impact can be strong. It is important to have an open mind and see things with interest, curiosity and a sense of humour. Everyday can be a surprise, from the food to a new word that helps you in daily life to a new place to visit or a new person to meet.

I don’t know how many other companies can offer this level and variety of international opportunities; it’s a chance to build your future success. My only regret is that I should have done this earlier!
