  • Senior Consultant
    • Wayne Liau

      Wayne Liau

Senior Consultant, Michael Page Accounting & Finance

Why did you join PageGroup and what is your current role?
I joined PageGroup because I can see a clear and structured career progression path (besides a rewarding one!). I am currently a Senior Consultant in the Accounting & Finance team, specialising in recruiting for the service industries.

What are the most rewarding parts of your job?
Besides being able to assist clients to hire the best talents (and vice versa), this job also provides me the opportunity to learn more about various clients in different industries such as their business and the challenges that they are facing.

What is the usual day-to-day schedule for you at PageGroup?
A usual day for me at PageGroup includes interviewing candidates, running business development calls to either new or existing clients  and following up closely on the recruitment process of each and every job I am working on and not to forget, catching up with my teammates and colleagues on business updates and leads.

  • Manager
    • Harpreet Kaur

      Harpreet Kaur

      Manager, Michael Page Human Resources

      Why did you join PageGroup?
I joined Michael Page Singapore in January 2011 as a Management Trainee for the banking team. Among the reasons why I have joined this organisation are that this role is a client facing role, promises career progression and most importantly, an organisation that practices diversity, i.e., women are in senior management positions. It resonated with values that I was looking for in an organisation such as meritocracy, diversity and last but not least, it offer a fun working environment.

How have you grown with PageGroup?
During my past four years with PageGroup, I have had the true Michael Page experience of having transferred across different job functions, businesses and international locations and have progressed from a Management Trainee to a Manager.  I am currently the manager for Michael Page Malaysia Human Resources team with four people reporting into me.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The fast track career progression, the job satisfaction and the ability to drive your own business.

What is the usual day-to-day schedule for you at PageGroup?
My day to day schedule includes overseeing my team to meet business goals, building key clients relationships and growing the human resources business to be recognised as the recruiter of choice in Malaysia.

  • Director
    • May Wah Chan

      May Wah Chan

Associate Director, Michael Page Sales & Marketing

      Why did you join PageGroup?
I came across PageGroup as a candidate when I relocated back to Malaysia from the UK. The manager then who hired me suggested I could be a fit for the business. The two things that interest me was the culture of PageGroup and its organic growth strategy. It was important for me to join a company that provides an open and fun work culture, a focus in coaching and development and a meritocracy work culture.

How have you grown with PageGroup?
I used to run a direct sales business in the UK and I was prepared to start from the bottom again seeing that recruitment was something new to me. I joined PageGroup as an Associate Consultant and progressed through to Consultant, Senior Consultant, Manager and Associate Director. I oversee two different teams in four years.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing people grow, building their confidence in doing the job and most definitely promoting them to new roles. That is probably the most rewarding and fulfilling part of my job.

What is the usual day-to-day schedule for you at PageGroup?
I start my morning planning my day. A usual morning will be a combination of team meetings, client/candidate calls, business development sessions, sourcing and administration work. Most afternoons are spent meeting candidates for a face to face interview and out meeting with potential client prospects.

What is the best thing about working for PageGroup?
The best thing is definitely the people and culture. I meet with so many people on a daily basis and often I hear people complain about their jobs. Here at PageGroup, we work hard and play hard and I cannot find any other place where everyone is motivated to achieve big goals and really know how to celebrate success after.

What attracted you to a career in recruitment?
I never thought of recruitment as a career option until I stumbled into PageGroup as a candidate. The main attraction for me was getting the opportunity to develop my previous skills further and grow my career within the company. Recruitment is all about dealing with different people and I enjoy that part of the job.

What advice would you give to graduates who are looking to join the recruitment industry?
If you like a role that is challenging, performance driven, and has a high engagement with people, then recruitment may be an option for you. When I was a graduate, the key things that were important for me was identifying a company that invests in training and development, has an open and fun work culture with opportunities to grow and progress. I believe PageGroup can offer all that and is a fantastic platform for any new graduate. My advice for anyone starting in the business is to have the willingness to learn, a great attitude to deal with challenges as the job deals with a lot of difficult people situations. You will need to have the tenacity to just keep going.

MAD is a unique volunteer placement company focused on connecting high need grass-root nonprofits with skilled volunteer talent. We believe international volunteering can be a powerful tool for change if it's done right. Established in 2013, we started off as a small non profit ourselves and have since grown into an award winning social business that has impacted over 10,000 lives.

Michael Page Malaysia travelled deep into rural Cambodia to get their hands dirty building and installing life-saving water filters. Every USD 20 they raise goes towards helping one rural villager gain access to up to 20 years of clean drinking water.

The team raised over MYR50,000 to fund the installation of more than 150 filters. This effectively helps over 750 rural villagers gain access to over 20 years of clean drinking water.

“A moustache is nature's billboard. Use it to start a conversation about men's health this Movember.” From humble beginnings in Australia in 2003, the Movember movement has grown to be a truly global one, inspiring support from over 5 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world. We seek to make a global contribution to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. This ambition underpins everything we do. It is the driving force behind our campaigns, funding strategy, and vision for the future.

International transfers

View the profiles of some of our international transfers to find out why our global presence makes us a great company to work for.
David Slater UK - Canada

I joined Michael Page Sales in 2006 as a consultant. Interestingly I didn't join (as many do) with the intentions of working internationally... it's funny how things pan out when the right opportunity presents itself.

Last year I had an internal discussion about the growth potential and the obstacles to overcome in our Canadian business. I'm now director of Michael Page Sales, Marketing and Technology in Toronto. It's still early days with plenty to accomplish but I already feel that I've learned so much. I'm excited about what lies ahead and it's clear that it was the 'right time', despite me not knowing it only a few months ago!

Alena Salakhova Russia - USA

One of the reasons I joined PageGroup in 2009 was the opportunity to gain international experience. After five years I knew I could stay or challenge myself somewhere new.

I am still a very young director and people in Russia consider my relocation to San Francisco Bay Area (the most developed area for new business development and start ups and an incredible place to live) as amazing.

The one thing I would say if you want to progress your career internationally – don’t be afraid to chase for it and make your dreams come true.

Denis Daniliuc France - Mexico

I joined in France as a consultant and progressed to manager level before applying for an international move and I was given the opportunity to move to New York. Heading back to Europe, I joined our office in Brussels to take over various disciplines in Belgium. After a few years, good results and a baby, I moved to Mexico City to grow our operations in this dynamic country.

I enjoy the nice weather and amazing weekend trips this beautiful country offers. If you want to develop professionally and enjoy a strong international network, PageGroup is definitely the place to be!

Aaron Bambrick Australia - Canada

I started at PageGroup on the graduate programme in 2008 and before transferring to Houston I recruited in the mining, oil and gas sectors in Brisbane. Transferring internationally can do a lot for your career but it’s also a big challenge.

Having worked in both the Australian and US oil and gas markets I have now transferred to Calgary to help open the office here and establish a local presence for Michael Page in Western Canada. Calgary is a beautiful city only an hour from the Rocky Mountains and the market is similar to that of Australia in a lot of aspects. Calgary presents a significant opportunity for Michael Page and gives us an integrated North American oil and gas team.

Jamie Hart UK - Sweden

I joined Michael Page in 2000 in London and in 2014 it felt the right time to explore international opportunities.

Learning something new about yourself and other people, learning new ways of recruiting in different markets has always been the main driver behind my attachment to PageGroup. Moving to Sweden has taken this to a whole new level.

The trust placed in you when you move abroad is inspiring, realising how much there is to learn gives you extra energy and living in a different environment positively challenges you professionally and personally. Now I won’t look back when I am old and wonder ‘if only’...

Marco Cremonese Italy - Germany

I started in Page Personnel Milan in 2009 as a trainee and became a senior consultant in the Retail division in 2010. In 2012 I took over the Digital & New Media specialisation and in October 2013 I became a manager.

I was happy in Milan but I wanted to experience meeting new people and working in a new division. I also wanted to develop personally.

I now work for Michael Page Finance & Accounting in Munich – of course it is a hard challenge and a new start, but it is a wonderful experience. I´m happy about the opportunity that PageGroup gave me.

Giovanni Presti Italy - Turkey

I was one of the top performers in Europe and won a trip to Istanbul. I didn’t know then but a year later the company, in response to my desire for international experience, was going to propose Turkey as my next chance to develop.

I am growing a new team in Istanbul, a wonderful city in a country where the culture is different from Italy but where there is a lot of energy in people and life. With PageGroup there are opportunities to learn about new cultures and live the experience.

Katherine Karlsen UK - South Africa

South Africa is very different from the UK, there are certain aspects of employment policy I had to overcome, but I find this makes it more exciting and it gave me a challenge. Johannesburg is known as the 'City of Gold' – as the gateway to Africa it provides you with further exposure to an emerging market. It really is an exciting place to recruit.

There is a great atmosphere in the office. The teams are motivated, passionate and diverse. There is a true sense of PageGroup culture here, with the added twist of South Africa.

Tamara Boonstra Netherlands - Indonesia

I was interested in the idea of international opportunities within the Group so started applying for a transfer. News came that the business was being launched in Jakarta, so I applied, got the job and moved here in January.

The best bit about moving is that it has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. I’m learning about a new culture and how to adapt in all sorts of situations – personally and professionally. Moving is definitely worthwhile. It has opened my mind and my eyes and given me space to explore and develop.

Simone Turola Italy - China

China is very different to Europe and the initial impact can be strong. It is important to have an open mind and see things with interest, curiosity and a sense of humour. Everyday can be a surprise, from the food to a new word that helps you in daily life to a new place to visit or a new person to meet.

I don’t know how many other companies can offer this level and variety of international opportunities; it’s a chance to build your future success. My only regret is that I should have done this earlier!
