      Sam McBain

      Why did you join PageGroup?

After University I had worked briefly for a U.S Listed Technology company in between 2 stints overseas; firstly through Europe and the US, and secondly through Asia. Upon returning, I was seeking my first career move and was looking for a client facing role in an organisation with a strong focus on training and development. I was particularly attracted to the team-based culture, prospect of managing and leading teams, high percentage of internal promotions and the possibility of working internationally. The fact that PageGroup offered all of these meant my decision was an easy one.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

I started as a Consultant in April 2015 working within our Accounting and Finance team, specialising in the recruitment of part-qualified and recently qualified accountants in Melbourne’s CBD Market. I billed $88k in my second quarter in the business and won PageGroup Victoria’s Rookie of the Year for 2015, with a personal best month of $52k (October, 2015). Approaching the 1-Year mark with PageGroup, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the business, meeting and working with a lot of impressive people along the way.

How do you spend your time at work?

It’s quite difficult to summarise a day’s work at PageGroup as no day is ever the same, which in my opinion keeps it pretty exciting! Generally speaking, I’d like to think I am spending a bit of time speaking and meeting with candidates in attempt to help them with their job search. In addition to this, you will often find me running around the streets of Melbourne’s CBD, meeting with new and existing clients in a view to assisting them with their recruitment needs moving forward.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

The best advice I would give someone wanting to join PageGroup would be to do it. Broadly speaking, you’d be joining a well respected global business recognised as a leader in their field. More specifically, you would be working as part of as a high performing team-orientated organisation with a strong focus on rewarding its employees and celebrating success.

    • Laura Hahn

      Laura Hahn

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup as a recent HR Graduate.  I knew that this was an amazing opportunity to join a well know, global business where opportunities were endless.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

My career at PageGroup so far has been a whirlwind.  I have learnt a huge amount in a 12 month period, met some amazing client and candidates, attended some impressive events with senior leaders in the market as well as growing as an individual.

How do you spend your time at work?

“Time flies when you’re having fun” – my time at work is spent doing a range of things.  A typical day in my role would include: market research, networking, candidate management, resourcing and proactive searching, varies internal and external meetings and successfully placing impressive candidates in great roles.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

My advice to anyone that is considering joining PageGroup is, DO IT! PageGroup is an amazing company to start a long, successful career in recruitment.

  • Manager
    • Michael Johns

      Michael Johns

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup as I was wanting to work for a global market leading organisation where my success was directly linked to the amount of work I put in. I wanted an organisation that could offer ongoing training and development programs knowing that in life we never stop learning. I also focused on finding culture of down to earth and dynamic people who were passionate, ambitious and liked to have fun.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

My career with PageGroup has been exciting and never had a day the same. I commenced as an Associate Consultant on our graduate program before progressing to Consultant and running my own recruitment desk. After being with the business for six years, I now manage our Page Personnel Finance team, mentor and develop consultants in my team, liaise with colleagues around Australia and actively recruit roles for some of the top Australia’s most impressive organisations.

How do you spend your time at work?

I wish I could talk you through a typical day however every day is different. I spend a lot of time interviewing candidates from all sorts of backgrounds to see how they can fit our clients’ requirements. This could be a Payroll Manager who has been looking after 30,000 employees across Australia or an entry level Accountant looking for a role straight out of university. I also spend a lot of time out of the office generating business and finding companies who require our services.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

Jump at the opportunity! Go hard at it and you will reap the rewards. This company allows you to use all of the skills you have developed at university while learning a whole heap more. PageGroup has provided me with rapid career progression, ongoing personal development and an amazing company culture.

    • Camille Hughes

      Camille Hughes

      Why did you join PageGroup?

My background being in marketing and digital marketing, I had never worked in recruitment before and had never really thought about it. There are a few reasons why I joined PageGroup, including a great management team, strong culture, career progression and international opportunities. All stakeholders that I met before joining Page made it very clear that you work hard and you get rewarded for it: it’s a challenging role where you manage your own business and can see the outcome of your persistence. And, of course, even though I had no experience in recruitment, I knew Michael Page to be one of the biggest recruitment agencies in the world... I couldn’t say no to that.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

I joined PageGroup early 2015 as a Consultant in our growing Digital team. In a year, I have grown and learnt like in no other roles before. I’ve learnt about myself but also about stakeholder management, resilience, time management and most certainly about the importance of team work in a recruitment job.

How do you spend your time at work?

No day is the same. I am based in our Sydney office and enjoy a great seat with a beautiful view. A typical day would be spent either at my computer calling clients and candidates, reviewing candidates’ details for jobs I am working on, discussing with the team about upcoming opportunities to work on. Or, if I’m not at my desk, you’ll find me in candidate interviews or client meetings, whether in Sydney CBD or surrounding areas (this is actually a great opportunity to visit the region, as I’m not from Sydney).

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

If you want to “work hard, play hard”, this is the place to be. You will learn a lot, get challenged, work a lot but also be rewarded with a strong team spirit, career progression, very good training & development program and fun events to celebrate your success.

    • Sean Goulding

      Sean Goulding

      Why did you join PageGroup?

After relocating from the US in search of a new career challenge, I was looking for a company that provided real career development, progression and realistic employee rewards. Coming from a strong Software Sales and product specialist background, I was looking for a role that would give me the chance to build a career and with the recent launch of their new Technology division, that really appealed to me. After careful research and consideration, I made my decision and knew within my first week that I made the right choice.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

I joined Michael Page in 2012 as consultant within our Technology division. As a newly created discipline; Technology was only a few years old prior to my arrival with a limited database and client portfolio. Over the last 4 years, I have taken ownership from an operational level to expand our knowledge base within the Queensland market, while developing strong relationships with some key clients to develop a scalable framework for repeatable business. In 2014 and 2015 Technology recorded back to back record years in revenue growth providing a great platform and level of optimism moving into 2016. Throughout this growth, I was promoted to the Manager of our Technology division in early 2015 and tasked with the responsibility of growing our business further and solidify our team as core pillar and flagship to the Page Group brand.

How do you spend your time at work?

As the leader of our Technology group, I’m very hands on with my team encouraging them to apply best practice as it relates to our discipline. I always look to motivate and inspire my team where necessary to get the best results I can. Outside of this, most of my time is spent on the phone or out visiting clients with the aim of developing further opportunities to help grow our business.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

If you are looking for a real career opportunity with a top tier organisation, look no further. Michael Page provides first class training and rewards their employees in a way that reflects business retention and employee satisfaction.

  • Director
    • Matthew Gribble

      Matthew Gribble

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I was an accountant at the time and wanted a role where I more directly impacted the results of a business and could see my hard work and success more directly driving my career progression and where international work experience was a real possibility. I also wanted a role that would enable me to manage and develop people and grow businesses. PageGroup ticked all these boxes.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

I started as a Consultant in our Finance business in Melbourne servicing the clerical accounting market in the north western suburbs ( favourite clients being sheep skin tanneries and nut and bolt manufacturers ). Working with some great leaders and a fantastic team I became our highest biller nationally in my second full year with the business whilst taking on team management responsibilities for the overall Melbourne finance business and then went onto run Victoria and then NSW and then various disciplines nationally. In 2007 I accepted the challenge to go an build a business in the Middle East based out of Dubai and some 8 years later I am delighted to have been part of a team that took the ME business from a single office and 6 people in Dubai to a Middle East and Africa team with well over 100 consultants across  Dubai, Doha, Johannesburg, Casablanca and Paris that was in profitability terms one of the top performing businesses in the Group. In 2016 the opportunity to return home and run our Australia and New Zealand businesses was offered to me and I jumped at the chance and am now actively engaged in taking this business to new heights with the support of a great team.

How do you spend your time at work?

I travel a lot currently as I get to know my new region so you could find me in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Auckland on any given day and you would likely find me meeting with clients, training and developing the team or working with my ANZ board members and group services heads to develop and implement our business strategies that will support the growth of the business in the years ahead.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

If you want a job and a company where the link between hard work and the results this hard work leads to, including career progression, is linear and you are surrounded by like minded people that know how to have a lot of fun whilst achieving great business success then look no further.

    • Jemma Cronin

      Jemma Cronin

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I was working in recruitment in the UK and wanted to move to Australia. I was lucky enough to have a sabbatical from my job and travelled to Australia on holiday and lined up a number of interviews before I arrived. PageGroup stood out for me above all of the other companies and quickly after meeting David George and a few of the consultants I knew I would fit in easily.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

I joined the Perth office in 2011 and thought I had entered a twilight zone as it was smack bang in the mining boom. I recruited in the finance division and made platinum club in 2012 to Buenos Aries which was amazing. At the end of 2013 I set up our Finance Public Sector team and was promoted to Manager in April 2014. 2015 was a great year for me and my best year so far at Page as I made Platinum Club to Queenstown and top biller for Australia.

How do you spend your time at work?

Most of my time is spent on the phones or out meeting clients or running to the printer (quicker to run than walk). A huge focus of mine when I set up the Public Sector Finance team was to meet with everyone, but I have also had to find the balance of training new starters, client development, working jobs and everything else that comes with it. Over the years I must admit I have got better at time management but that is certainly the hardest part of our job - always lots to do but so little time.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

The first year is always the hardest and it will be a roller coaster ride. The highs do outweigh the lows though and my main advice would be to be coachable and stick at it. If you do everything right, are coachable and want to make it work then it will happen.

    • Aaron Bambrick

      Aaron Bambrick

      Why did you join PageGroup?

I joined PageGroup in January 2008 as a Graduate. The main drawing point for me was working for an international business that would allow me to grow and progress my career. I also loved the strong L&D program in place which would provide me with the best possible launching pad for my career. I was part of a national graduate program which proved to be extremely successful across the various offices.

Describe your PageGroup career so far

Through my 8 years at Page I have worked across 6 different divisions, three countries and four offices. This includes launching and building a discipline from the ground up and being part of an office launch in Canada.

How do you spend your time at work?

It is incredibly varied and one week can look completely different to the next. Apart from leading my teams, I am still actively involved with the operational day-to-day recruitment of meeting candidates and clients.

What advice do you have to others who want to join PageGroup?

If you are looking for a business that will constantly challenge you to improve your performance and build your capability than PageGroup is a great option for you. PageGroup is a genuine opportunity to not only learn the business landscape but also build the right skills in running a business with a global leader.

International transfers

View the profiles of some of our international transfers to find out why our global presence makes us a great company to work for.
David Slater UK - Canada

I joined Michael Page Sales in 2006 as a consultant. Interestingly I didn't join (as many do) with the intentions of working internationally... it's funny how things pan out when the right opportunity presents itself.

Last year I had an internal discussion about the growth potential and the obstacles to overcome in our Canadian business. I'm now director of Michael Page Sales, Marketing and Technology in Toronto. It's still early days with plenty to accomplish but I already feel that I've learned so much. I'm excited about what lies ahead and it's clear that it was the 'right time', despite me not knowing it only a few months ago!

Alena Salakhova Russia - USA

One of the reasons I joined PageGroup in 2009 was the opportunity to gain international experience. After five years I knew I could stay or challenge myself somewhere new.

I am still a very young director and people in Russia consider my relocation to San Francisco Bay Area (the most developed area for new business development and start ups and an incredible place to live) as amazing.

The one thing I would say if you want to progress your career internationally – don’t be afraid to chase for it and make your dreams come true.

Denis Daniliuc France - Mexico

I joined in France as a consultant and progressed to manager level before applying for an international move and I was given the opportunity to move to New York. Heading back to Europe, I joined our office in Brussels to take over various disciplines in Belgium. After a few years, good results and a baby, I moved to Mexico City to grow our operations in this dynamic country.

I enjoy the nice weather and amazing weekend trips this beautiful country offers. If you want to develop professionally and enjoy a strong international network, PageGroup is definitely the place to be!

Aaron Bambrick Australia - Canada

I started at PageGroup on the graduate programme in 2008 and before transferring to Houston I recruited in the mining, oil and gas sectors in Brisbane. Transferring internationally can do a lot for your career but it’s also a big challenge.

Having worked in both the Australian and US oil and gas markets I have now transferred to Calgary to help open the office here and establish a local presence for Michael Page in Western Canada. Calgary is a beautiful city only an hour from the Rocky Mountains and the market is similar to that of Australia in a lot of aspects. Calgary presents a significant opportunity for Michael Page and gives us an integrated North American oil and gas team.

Jamie Hart UK - Sweden

I joined Michael Page in 2000 in London and in 2014 it felt the right time to explore international opportunities.

Learning something new about yourself and other people, learning new ways of recruiting in different markets has always been the main driver behind my attachment to PageGroup. Moving to Sweden has taken this to a whole new level.

The trust placed in you when you move abroad is inspiring, realising how much there is to learn gives you extra energy and living in a different environment positively challenges you professionally and personally. Now I won’t look back when I am old and wonder ‘if only’...

Marco Cremonese Italy - Germany

I started in Page Personnel Milan in 2009 as a trainee and became a senior consultant in the Retail division in 2010. In 2012 I took over the Digital & New Media specialisation and in October 2013 I became a manager.

I was happy in Milan but I wanted to experience meeting new people and working in a new division. I also wanted to develop personally.

I now work for Michael Page Finance & Accounting in Munich – of course it is a hard challenge and a new start, but it is a wonderful experience. I´m happy about the opportunity that PageGroup gave me.

Giovanni Presti Italy - Turkey

I was one of the top performers in Europe and won a trip to Istanbul. I didn’t know then but a year later the company, in response to my desire for international experience, was going to propose Turkey as my next chance to develop.

I am growing a new team in Istanbul, a wonderful city in a country where the culture is different from Italy but where there is a lot of energy in people and life. With PageGroup there are opportunities to learn about new cultures and live the experience.

Katherine Karlsen UK - South Africa

South Africa is very different from the UK, there are certain aspects of employment policy I had to overcome, but I find this makes it more exciting and it gave me a challenge. Johannesburg is known as the 'City of Gold' – as the gateway to Africa it provides you with further exposure to an emerging market. It really is an exciting place to recruit.

There is a great atmosphere in the office. The teams are motivated, passionate and diverse. There is a true sense of PageGroup culture here, with the added twist of South Africa.

Tamara Boonstra Netherlands - Indonesia

I was interested in the idea of international opportunities within the Group so started applying for a transfer. News came that the business was being launched in Jakarta, so I applied, got the job and moved here in January.

The best bit about moving is that it has taken me completely out of my comfort zone. I’m learning about a new culture and how to adapt in all sorts of situations – personally and professionally. Moving is definitely worthwhile. It has opened my mind and my eyes and given me space to explore and develop.

Simone Turola Italy - China

China is very different to Europe and the initial impact can be strong. It is important to have an open mind and see things with interest, curiosity and a sense of humour. Everyday can be a surprise, from the food to a new word that helps you in daily life to a new place to visit or a new person to meet.

I don’t know how many other companies can offer this level and variety of international opportunities; it’s a chance to build your future success. My only regret is that I should have done this earlier!

Here are a few comments from our interns who participated in the 2016 Vocational Placement Programme across ANZ.

  • Overall a brilliant experience; learned a lot from everyone.  Loved the culture.
  • It was a really structured internship and you could easily compare to the Big 4
  • PageGroup is well respected by future employers, experience will look great on a CV. Good for economics/business students looking to gain corporate exposure.
  • Communication skills are so important in recruitment, as with any other career. The internship has helped accentuate and refine my communications skills – both verbally and written.

Client and candidate satisfaction rank highly among our consultants and this continues right the way through to director level. Negotiating on behalf of our clients to secure them the best candidates for their roles and the best package for our candidates is challenging.

Yes, it's business-to-business sales.

There is a constant buzz of activity. As we have small business teams the offices are open plan, highly supportive as well as lots of fun.

The euphoria of placing candidates and being rewarded for achieving targets is evident throughout the whole organisation. In addition, the pride associated with working for such a well-known brand is a definite plus.

You will be paid a competitive base salary with the opportunity to receive bonus/commission payments. Your career will progress within PageGroup based on the results that you achieve – 87% of our directors were promoted from within. There are also trips abroad for high achievers and quarterly events within a fun and team-based environment. Finally, to round out your rewards package, we have competitive benefit programmes.

All consultants have a set of key performance indicators relative to the business in which they work, these are discussed with your manager on a daily basis and used to track and improve your performance. In addition we have a bi-annual appraisal which gives you the opportunity to discuss, among other things, your long-term career plans.

As well as attending your regional consultant development programme, you will also receive one-to-one support from your manager, including on desk coaching and shadowing and localised workshop sessions for key recruitment skills.

Successful applicants will be required to attend either an interview or assessment centre, along with the opportunity to spend some time with the team you will potentially join on the operating floor and a meeting with the relevant business MD.

We will contact you either way to confirm whether or not you have been successful and provide you with relevant feedback on your performance.

At PageGroup, you are part of a company at the leading edge of the recruitment industry. We offer a rewarding corporate environment and create opportunities and challenges for our employees to reach their potential and feel like a contributor to PageGroup’s success.
